The Remote Proliferation Detection Department is seeking a highly motivated computer/data scientist / engineer to join our multidisciplinary team\\. This position will focus on algorithm research and development of advanced computational methods, models, and software to support national security missions in a variety of high\\-impact areas within Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation R&D\\. Technical focus areas will include the following:

+ machine learning and deep learning
+ data science and analytics
+ modeling and simulation
+ computational science and mathematics
+ algorithm design and development
+ scientific and data visualization

This position necessitates various interactions across the laboratory, including collaboration with partner organizations and partner projects\\. In this role, there is significant opportunity for leadership development, and you will be given the opportunity to engage and collaborate in leadership development activities both independently and as part of the larger team\\.

It is required you have the ability to support moderate travel\\.


+ You posses an Undergraduate and advanced degree \\(Masters or PhD\\) in related STEM discipline; or Bachelor's in relevant STEM discipline, plus 4 years related experience
+ Your experience includes proficiency in computer programming languages such as C\\+\\+or Python
+ Experience in software design, engineering and development skills, including familiarity with modern software development practices and tools
+ Demonstrated strong analytical and creative problem\\-solving skills


+ Proven performance as a strong individual contributor within a multidisciplinary team, and within the framework of a research project which shows evidence of meeting deadlines
+ You possess experience in machine learning, statistical inference, or data mining
+ Experience developing data processing and analysis systems
+ You have familiarity with optical remote sensing technologies, data, and formats
+ You have excellent verbal & written communication and organizational skills
+ Proven ability to conduct creative, independent research
+ Strong customer\\-focus and proactive response to questions/requests with demonstrated exceptional follow through

Department Description:

The Remote Proliferation Detection Department \\(6751\\) primarily supports the NNSA Office of Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation Research and Development \\(NA\\-22\\) through the execution of nonproliferation technology research, development and demonstration experiments, applications and field exercises\\.

The department advances national security missions through the development of innovative concepts for active and passive remote sensing systems, signatures, and exploitation\\. The department maintains a breadth of remote sensing competencies including target phenomenology, scene simulation, radiative transport, optical sensor modeling, spectral & temporal data processing, and algorithm development\\. This collection of competencies allows the team to develop novel, mission specific sensor concepts as well as assess and predict mission performance\\. The projects within the group span diverse mission areas including, but not limited to, Nuclear Nonproliferation, Weaponization, USNDS, and DOD\\. The department is actively engaged in program development and maturing enabling capabilities by transitioning research and development from across the laboratory through the LDRD process\\.

Sandia has supported nonproliferation and treaty verification R&D since the 1960's with the NNSA and its predecessors\\. The NA\\-22 office has responsibility for leading the nonproliferation and treaty verification R&D portfolio\\. Sandia has a significant role in meeting the needs this program and 6750 is the single program point of contact for NA\\-22 nonproliferation activities, exclusive of the Space based Nuclear Detonation Detection \\(SNDD\\) program\\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \\(DOE\\) Q\\-level security clearance\\.
